Food Planning- advice for participants and parents
The DofE's greatest benefit is undoubtedly the opportunity that young people have to make some errors, have an opportunity to reflect on those and get it right next time. That is why it is a requirement of every participant to have done a Practice expedition prior to Qualifying. That benefit is never more better realised than with food planning.

For participants and their parents this might sound daunting but please be assured that whatever they decide to bring. Its our responsibility to make sure that the group food is safe (perishables, allergies) and that they have enough calories. When groups arrive, their kit and food is inspected. Sometimes it is found that groups will need to be creative in grouping their joint food together and others arrive with 3 courses per meal and everything in 'Ziploc' bags.
Our leaders supervise the groups at mealtimes to ensure that all team members are eating) Guidance will be given to the groups and usually they are able to coordinate well together if not on the practice, then certainly on the Qualifying expedition. In group review, its often the most well-reflected and discussed topic when asked what changes that they will make next time (We carry supplies for the group that has bought 5kg of dried pasta, but forgotten the sauce ! ;-) Groups are instructed on proper food hygiene. There are 2 stoves in each team so participants have an opportunity to add different ingredients to a communal base meal accommodate different dietary requirements. Bon Appetit! If a little stuck /-:- here's some guidance- maybe a starting point for discussion- easy to put together with your group on the day. per person- 3 day training and practice
